Vehicles in German Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police stated they were notified by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior official said the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
