19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is his maiden championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from spring of that year.
Victory also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an better serve.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.
The opponent saved 4 initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, he earned the title with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
